Leadership Lessons from the Field
Reflections on leadership principles learned through years of competitive athletics and how they translate to professional success.
Throughout my journey from high school football in Idaho to Harvard and now Memphis, I've learned that the principles of effective leadership remain consistent across different environments and challenges.
Leading by Example
The most powerful form of leadership isn't found in speeches or titles—it's demonstrated through consistent action and unwavering commitment to excellence. Whether in the weight room at 6 AM or staying late to review film, your team watches everything you do.
Embracing Adversity
Transferring from Harvard to Memphis taught me that growth often requires stepping outside your comfort zone. The decision wasn't easy, but it reinforced that true leaders make difficult choices when they align with their values and goals.
Building Trust
Trust is earned through reliability, authenticity, and putting the team's success above personal recognition. As a linebacker and defensive captain, I learned that your teammates need to know you'll be there for them—on and off the field.
These lessons continue to shape my approach to challenges, both in athletics and in life beyond the game.
